I don't know if they still have it, but the LA Times Calendar section used to have this feature called "My Favorite Weekend" where they would interview various "B" celebrities on what they would do on an ideal weekend. While we wouldn't even qualify as "Z" celebrities, here's a taste of what would do on our perfect weekend at home.
Slummin' it Downtown:
When we got married, Ed (being the urban planner that he is), insisted that we live in Downtown LA. While I wasn't too thrilled about the idea, I have grown to
love appreciate the unique sights, sounds, and smells that constitute our City's urban core (not to mention the 2-minute commute to my office right across the street!). Since there is still so much revitalization going on, we like to stick around and check out the new restaurants that are popping up every week.
Colori Kitchen has delicious italian food at a great price - and since they don't have their ABC permit yet, no corkage fee!! Afterwards, we might meet up friends at
Edison or
Casey's to have a drink and catch up.
Of course, none of this happens if the
Dodgers are playing a worthy opponent. Then its all about Dodger Dogs, Camachos Nachos, Gordon Biersch Garlic Fries, and our boys in blue.
Golf 'n Stuff:
As a newly married couple, I thought it would be nice for us to pick up a new hobby that we could learn and enjoy together. So we decided to sign up for beginner golf lessons at
Scholl Canyon in Glendale on saturday mornings. Since I had previously played a few casual rounds of par 3, it wasn't completely unfamiliar territory. But for Stacy, it was a bit more... frustrating. Hopefully, we'll both stick with it so we can hit up some of those beautiful looking courses in Hawaii the next time we visit her parents.
After a quick lunch at
The Oinkster in Eagle Rock (Oinkster pastrami, belgian fries and an ube shake), we'll pick up our 5-month old welsh corgi puppy
Keahi for an afternoon hike at
Runyon Canyon. His legs may be short, but he storms up those switchbacks faster than us! On our way back home, we'll stop by
Scoops to taste the latest flavors Tai has whipped up. My current faves: strawberry riesling and banana pudding. Yum!
Since we've already gained back all the calories we burned from hiking with the ice cream, we'll try to do a "light" dinner - which for us mean Japanese. Our goto sushi joint is
Hama in Little Tokyo - the spicy hamachi hand rolls are dabomb.com and the uni is the freshest you'll find anywhere. After picking up some hot an-pans (sweet red bean buns) at
Mitsuru Cafe in Japanese Village Plaza, we'll walk back home and see what TiVo decided to record - more likely than not,
Law and Boredom Order, Stacy's favorite show.
Lazy Sunday:Our church service doesn't start until 11am, so we'll take Keahi to the
Alice Frost Kennedy Off-Leash Dog Park in Pasadena to get some morning exercise and socialize with the other dogs. After a soul-stirring set of praise music and a contemplative, yet hilarious sermon by Pastor Sam at the
Community Church on Holliston, we'll break bread with church friends at
Pho 79 in Alhambra. Then we'll swing by Ed's folks house to drop off the puppy off before pounding the synthetic running track at Ed's alma mater,
La Canada High School, in an attempt to get in shape for the
Camp Pendleton Mud Run we'll be doing in a few months. It's not looking promising...
I love home-cooked Korean food, so if Ed's parents don't offer us dinner, we'll stop by
HK Market to pick up some ingredients for my favorite meal:
kkong-na-mul-bab (bean sprout rice) and
boog-uh-gook (dried haddock soup). Ed complains that I eat like a
shee-gohl ah-jum-ma (old country korean lady), but he always eats up whatever I cook like a good little boy :)
